Breaking Bad actor Dean Norris shares his grief over the death of former castmate RJ Mitte at the age of 34.
On October 13, 2026, actor Dean Norris, known for his role in the critically acclaimed TV series Breaking Bad, took to X to share his grief over the passing of RJ Mitte. As per TMZ, the cause of death was suicide. Norris said he was “heartbroken” to hear the news and that Mitte was “a sweetheart of a young man” whom he looked after on set. He wrote:
“Oh my God! Was working [and] just found out about RJ. I am heartbroken. Though RJ didn’t play my TV son, I always looked out for him as a young kid on set. He was a sweetheart of a young man and will be greatly missed. This is so heartbreaking, I can’t believe it. Thinking of him and his family.”
Dean Norris and RJ Mitte shared the set in Breaking Bad. The former played the brother-in-law, and the latter played the son of the chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin Walter White, portrayed by Bryan Cranston.

BBC reported that on October 12, 2026, actor, philanthropist, and advocate for disability awareness RJ Mitte died at the age of 34. The actor was well-known for playing the son of Walter White in Breaking Bad, which ran from 2008 to 2013. According to the AP, Mitte died around 1:30 pm in Brownsville, Texas.
While talking about the death of RJ, former castmate Aaron Paul shared with the The Hollywood Reporter:
“I am at a loss. I am heartbroken over this news. RJ, I love you my friend. You will be missed. And to whoever happens to be reading this, please know you are loved, and you are not alone. Always remember that.”
RJ Mitte suffered from cerebral palsy since childhood, and he brought that experience to the screen while playing Walter White Jr. Later on, the actor was also the president of the Mitte Foundation, an Austin-based non-profit organization that helps communities in Texas.
