Rockstar says GTA 6 won’t include Disney World or Universal Studios

Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 won’t include its own versions of Orlando and major tourist destinations such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, despite drawing inspiration from Florida for its setting.

The developer addressed the theme park attractions in Game Informer’s September 29 coverage, where Rockstar’s senior vice president of environment art, Paul MacPherson, explained that choosing which parts of the state to represent means weighing up what best serves the game.

While some “exact locations” haven’t made the cut, McPherson said Rockstar is still aiming to deliver the “full Florida experience” through the locations and environments it has chosen.

During the interview, Game Informer asked whether Florida’s central region, including Orlando and its famous tourist attractions, would be represented in GTA 6 in some form.

“We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations, and everything else before we work with design and narrative to distill a list down that best works with and serves the game’s needs,” MacPherson said.

“So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!”

This means you won’t be able to take a joyride around Universal Studios or see Mickey and his pals, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be some kind of theme park inspired by Florida’s famous attractions.

After all, the series has included amusement parks before, with GTA 5 letting players ride a roller coaster and Ferris wheel at Del Perro Pier. GTA 4 also featured Funland, a closed amusement park inspired by New York’s Coney Island.

While we don’t know the full extent of the attractions we’ll see across Leonida, we do know the game’s fictional Florida will have a weather system that includes hurricanes, tropical storms, and dynamic wind.
