Social media users share their thoughts after Blackpink’s Lisa won her first Best Pop award at the MTV VMAs.
K-pop girl group BLACKPINK’s youngest member, Lisa, recently became the first K-pop solo artist to win Best Pop at the VMAs. The Thai singer released her song Dream, featuring Kentaro Sakaguchi, who appeared in the music video, in February 2025 and won the award for the track. She was nominated alongside names like Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo. Although the song did not chart in the U.S., it reached No. 1 in Lisa’s home country of Thailand and also charted in other countries like Japan and Malaysia.
After she won the award, social media users shared their thoughts on it. They wrote:
“Genuinely: why? This song didn’t even chart in the US,” stated Reddit user GoldfishFire.
“None of her music is even charting in the US, what,” wrote ChipmunkAmazing2105 on Reddit.
“The popularity of K-pop is really fueling my inner conspiracy theorist,” said Reddit user LovelyMel18.
“Best pop in what universe? surely not this one,” commented calicokm on Reddit.
“Every award i’ve seen at this show so far has essentially been an attendance trophy tbh,” stated Reddit user espgen.
It’s worth noting that Lisa is the first K-pop solo act to win a VMA. From 2019 to 2026, BTS has won several VMAs, making them the most-awarded K-pop act in VMA history. However, the Thai singer is no stranger to the awards, as BLACKPINK has won several VMAs in the past.

After Lisa won Best Pop for her song “Dream,” fans cheered for her. Holding back tears, she thanked her collaborators, MTV, and her fanbase for the award. One fan yelled, “Lisa, don’t cry,” as she began to tear up. In her acceptance speech, she said:
“First of all, thank you, MTV, for this amazing award… All those late-night dreams brought me here today, so thank you for the inspiration. Especially to my Lillies, I wouldn’t be here without you guys. So, thank you so much for your love and support.”
