Palworld Card Game Shows Off New Legendary Cards

The Palworld Official Card Game is showing off a brand-new type of card in the Legends Awaken expansion, introducing the powerful Legendary trait to the game. The Palworld TCG’s second set is scheduled to officially launch in late October.

The launch of the card game based on the monster-catching survival game has taken the TCG world by storm. Bushiroad officially debuted Dawn of Palpagos as the first set for the Palworld Official Card Game, launching alongside a set of Red/Blue and Green/Purple Trial Decks. The company wasted no time in teasing fans about the future of the card game as well, confirming the Legends Awaken expansion for an October release and recently teasing Eternal Ascent as the game’s third set. Now, Palworld‘s second set is introducing a unique mechanic to the game, aimed at some of its most powerful Pals.

Palworld Official Card Game is Adding Legendary Pals

Bushiroad revealed the addition of the new Legendary trait in the Palworld Official Card Game‘s Legends Awaken set on social media. Pals with the Legendary trait will impose a unique gameplay restriction on Palworld players, only allowing players to have one Legendary Pal with the same name in their Base. Jetragon was confirmed as the first Legendary Pal coming in Legends Awaken, with its abilities hinting at multiple other Legendary Pals being included, potentially even becoming its own archetype. Palworld‘s Legends Awaken expansion is scheduled to officially release on October 30.

The introduction of a Legendary mechanic to Palworld follows a similar concept from one of the most popular TCGs. Magic: The Gathering‘s Legendary Creature cards utilize a similar mechanic, only allowing players to control one copy of a Legendary card at any time. If a player plays another Legendary card with the same name as one they control, the player immediately has to send one of them to the graveyard before continuing with the game. Bushiroad did not confirm which other Pals will have the Legendary trait with the release of Legends Awaken.

The Palworld Official Card Game has continued to draw from successful ideas implemented by other popular TCGs. The game features a mana system similar to that of League of Legends trading card game Riftbound, automatically giving players Souls each turn, while the player going second gets an extra Soul at the start of the game. The combat draws heavily from card games like Lorcana, with players having the choice of sending their Pals to attack other Pals, Structures, or the opposing player. The Palworld card game also incorporates mechanics from the main game, with Pals having specific skills like Harvesting and Kindling to use with different cards.

The Legends Awaken expansion is expected to be joined by a much-needed reprint of Palworld‘s first set. Dawn of Palpagos quickly became a hot seller after its initial release, with the Palworld Official Card Game being targeted by scalpers and seeing the price of booster boxes skyrocket. Bushiroad confirmed not only that it was working to get more of the first printing onto store shelves, but also that a 2nd Edition reprint of Dawn of Palpagos will release in October. The early popularity of the Palworld Official Card Game should bode well for the game’s future, with or without scalpers interfering.
