Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave players have discovered an unusual Walmart checkout workaround, and it has shoppers adding bananas to their orders before buying the Switch 2 game.
The physical edition launched at a standard price of $79.99, while Walmart has been selling it for less. Applying promo codes such as FAST30 or SAVE3X can reportedly cut the price to roughly $60, according to deal hunter Wario64.
However, the codes do not appear to work consistently for every shopper. Some users say they had to select delivery before switching to store pickup at checkout, while others found that adding a single banana made the discount apply.
Why are people adding bananas to Walmart orders?
Wario64 wrote, “if code doesn’t work, try switching to pickup. If that doesn’t work, add a banana.”
Walmart lists individual bananas for around 20 cents, making them the cheapest item many shoppers can add to test the discount. Several users in a Reddit thread confirmed that the trick worked for them.
One shopper said they had to add a banana before the promo code would apply, then removed it before completing the order. Others reported that switching from delivery to pickup was enough to activate the discount.
It is unclear why the banana affects Walmart’s checkout system, especially since Fortune’s Weave already exceeds the usual minimum purchase amount for a $10 discount. The game itself is also listed with pickup and delivery options on Walmart’s product page.
As more shoppers share screenshots and instructions, some customers claimed the exploit caused a banana shortage at their local Walmart, with bananas showing as “out of stock”. There is no indication that Walmart has acknowledged the issue, and the codes may stop working or vary by account and location.
