Brazilian TikToker Duda Alves has died aged 22, days after sharing videos documenting a painful recovery from breast-reduction surgery.
Maria Eduarda Alves dos Santos, better known online as Duda Alves, had amassed more than 750,000 followers and 27 million likes on TikTok. She became known for humorous videos about her daily life and a recurring series in which she listed things she disliked.
Alves died on September 13, according to People, with her family publicly announcing her death two days later. A wake was held at São João Paulo II Parish in Brasília on September 15. UOL reported that her cause of death had not been disclosed.
There has been no established link between Alves’ recent surgery and her death.
Duda Alves documented difficult recovery after surgery
In the weeks before her death, Alves had been documenting her recovery from a breast-reduction procedure on TikTok.
UOL reported that she underwent the surgery after experiencing discomfort while wearing workout clothes and feeling that her breasts were disproportionate to her body. Her posts subsequently focused on her recovery as well as reactions from people commenting on the change to her appearance.
In a video posted on September 8, Alves said it had been around three weeks since the procedure and described experiencing “a lot of pain.” She also said she had been vomiting frequently and crying because of the pain during her recovery.
Her final TikTok, posted September 9, again discussed the surgery. Alves responded to criticism from men over her decision to undergo the procedure and explained that she had chosen it for comfort and aesthetic reasons.
Friends and relatives have since shared tributes to the creator. Her cousin Geovana Alves remembered their years together as being filled with laughter, trips, conversations, and shared plans, while her father thanked those who had supported his daughter during remarks at her wake.
People reported that the Civil Police of Brazil’s Federal District are investigating Alves’ death and declined to provide further details, citing the privacy of her family. No official cause of death has been publicly established.
Alves is the most recent in a string of influencer deaths involving plastic surgery. Olivia Oras, 27, passed away following complications during a cosmetic procedure, and inlfuencer Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo died after a penis enlargement procedure.
