Valve has officially revealed pricing and release details for Steam Frame, with its standalone VR headset starting at $1,059.
Pre-orders opened on September 14, with Valve using a randomized reservation system for the initial batch rather than a first-come, first-served approach. The first purchase emails are expected to go out on September 18.
Steam Frame is Valve’s new standalone VR headset powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and SteamOS 3. It can run optimized VR games and flatscreen Steam games directly on the headset, while also supporting wireless PC streaming through an included adapter.
Steam Frame starts at $1,059
The 256GB Steam Frame costs $1,059 in the US, while the 1TB version is priced at $1,299. Both models include 16GB of RAM, microSD expansion, 2160 x 2160 LCDs for each eye, and refresh rates ranging from 72Hz to 144Hz, with 144Hz listed as experimental.
The headset also features inside-out tracking, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, built-in speakers and microphones, and Steam Frame controllers with full 6-DOF tracking and traditional gamepad controls. Half-Life: Alyx is included.
Customers can join the reservation list for one model through September 17 at 10 AM PT. Valve will then randomize the list and email customers later that day to confirm whether they received a reservation or were placed on the waitlist.
The first purchase emails are expected to be sent on September 18, with Steam Frame units shipping shortly afterward.
Valve also revealed several accessories launching alongside the headset. A 45W Steam Hardware Power Supply costs $29, while an Ergonomic Accessories Kit is priced at $59 and an Accessory Replacement Kit costs $49.
Steam Frame does not include a dedicated power supply, although Valve says a Steam Deck charger or another USB-C charger rated at 45W or higher will work with the headset.
The Steam Frame launch comes just months after Valve released its Steam Machine, a living room-focused gaming PC starting at $1,049. Valve used a similar randomized reservation system for that launch, with the company assigning customers a place in the queue before sending out purchase invitations.
With Steam Frame now joining the Steam Machine and Steam Controller, Valve has officially launched all three of the new hardware products it first unveiled in November 2025.
