GoPro is set to merge with Starman Optical in an almost $300 million move, and it comes amid interest in YouTuber Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach having stocks in the company.
There are plenty of YouTubers and content creators who have taken their online success and invested elsewhere. The likes of MrBeast, Logan Paul, and Pokimane have gotten into the food and beverage scene, while Jake Paul, IShowSpeed, and KSI have made investments in sport.
When it comes to Markiplier, the YouTube star has done plenty outside of the Google-owned platform. He shot to success in Hollywood with his movie Iron Lung, which has prompted studios to try and find the next YouTuber who give them a hit.
On top of that, it has also been revealed that he has a sizable share of stocks in GoPro. Back in mid-July, Fischbach disclosed that he owned over 8.5% of GoPro stocks, making him the largest individual shareholder that’s not backed by an investment firm or GoPro itself.

Speaking to Bloomberg, the YouTube star said the stock seemed “undervalued,” and it’s something he has been “cooking in the background” of his other projects.
“One of the things I want to do is push my audience to the risky world of trying to make feature films and higher-end productions,” Fischbach said.
After the disclosure about his shares hit the internet, the stock ticked up, with Yahoo Finance crediting the YouTuber for the new success.
As it turns out, GoPro has actually announced a merger with Starman Optical, a privately held photonics company.
The stock rose to a high of $1.58 per share on September 1, but has settled back down at the $1.23 mark. Fischbach owns around $9 million of stock, likely bought at around $0.60 per share, as that’s what it was trading for in July when he disclosed his investment.
As per GoPro’s announcement, shareholders will receive cash payments at around $1.14 per share, so Markipiler is set for a bit of a payday. Though, exact figures aren’t disclosed just yet.
