“Afraid of the Real Snowflakes”: Internet Reacts As GTA 6 Will Reportedly Not Parody Donald Trump or COVID-19

Reports reveal that the upcoming game, GTA 6, won’t parody Donald Trump or COVID-19, sparking heated debate online.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to skip two of the biggest news stories of the last decade.

According to a recent report by The New York Times, two things that GTA 6 won’t directly address are Donald Trump’s rise to political power and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson explained the thinking behind the decision, noting that the studio has to be careful about tying the game too closely to events that could quickly feel dated:

“We run the risk of dating ourselves in a sort of awkward way. So we have to look at things and go, What is going to have a timeless sort of quality that will speak very easily to relatable sort of human folly and foibles and will be remembered as part of this time?”

But that doesn’t mean the satire will stop entirely. Grand Theft Auto has always mined American culture for material, and there’s plenty left to interrogate or poke fun at without leaning on Trump or the pandemic directly.

Internet users flame Rockstar as reports claim GTA 6 will completely avoid parodying Donald Trump and COVID-19.

The report quickly sparked discussion online, with fans sharing their thoughts about Rockstar choosing not to tackle Trump or COVID-19:

“Afraid of the real snowflakes i see,” X user @DANNYonPC said.

“Glad they aren’t touching this stuff, real life is f***** enough,” X user @PunksWorldd wrote.

“Why not. It’s exactly what SHOULD be in a GTA game…” X user @TheTwinTitans commented.

“Finally. A game that actually wants to make money and not alienate 50+% of their audience,” X user @vercogamingttv said.

GTA 6 Is Being Tested at 30 FPS

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently being built and tested to run at 30 frames per second, and it looks like that frame rate may carry over to launch on consoles.

Nelson confirmed as much while speaking with content creator Davy Jones, one of several YouTubers given early hands-on time with the game ahead of this week’s extended Netflix preview.

Separately, the outlet Flow Games, which toured Rockstar North alongside the same group of creators, got a similar answer from Nelson:

“According to Rob Nelson, Lead Developer and Co-director at Rockstar North, during this development period, the consoles are running the game at 30 frames per second. … it is still necessary to consult the technical team to determine if there will be a 60 FPS option at launch (or in the future).”

For now, console players will have to wait for Rockstar to reveal the final technical specifications of GTA 6.
