Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is home to countless races of different kinds with different abilities up their sleeves. Over the years, Oda has introduced various races, including hybrids, and the ongoing Elbaf arc, which is one of the biggest and most important arcs in the Final Saga of the series, has once again highlighted quite a few of them.
In Egghead, we were properly introduced to the Buccaneer race, while Elbaf introduced us to a couple of hybrids, such as Dosundada. At the same time, this arc also confirmed the strongest race to exist in the world of One Piece, and that is none other than the race of the Giants. Known to wield tremendous strength and the power to conquer the world, the Giants reign supreme at the top of all races when it comes to physical strength. The climax of the Elbaf arc yet again showcases this through the immense strength of the new God of War of Elbaf, Loki.
One Piece’s Elbaf Arc Confirms The Giant Race As The Strongest
The existence of Giants was first confirmed to us in the Little Garden arc of One Piece, which officially began with One Piece Chapter 115 on December 6, 1999, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #1. On this island, two giants were revealed to have been fighting a duel for a hundred years, and they were Dorry and Brogy. Since then, the Giant race has been expanded upon significantly, and Eiichiro Oda also introduced a subclass of this race known as the Ancient Giants. Among the Giant race, there were a select few who towered even above the Giants and held demonic traits, such as massive horns, giant teeth, and the capability to destroy just about everything in their path. The Thriller Bark arc introduced us to the lore of the Ancient Giant Oars, and in the Marineford arc, we saw the descendants of Oars, known as Little Oars Jr.
There are also many individuals in the world of One Piece who hold the blood of the Ancient Giants, with Harald being one of them. In the Elbaf arc, Eiichiro Oda officially confirms to us that the Giants of Elbaf are the strongest race in the world of One Piece. This is one of the primary reasons why Big Mom even wanted to forge an alliance with the Giants, because she knew that if they were at her side, she would have been able to crush the likes of the competitor Yonko such as Kaido, Shanks, and even Whitebeard, according to her.
“If only she’d done what I said and gotten married! Oh, the power I would’ve gained! I would have already destroyed Kaido, Red Hair, and even Whitebeard. By this point, I would’ve become the Pirate King!” — Big Mom confirms the immense power of the Giants
The Giants of One Piece Ruled The New World In The Past
In One Piece chapter 1137, which was released on January 27, 2025, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #9, Eiichiro Oda directly confirmed to us that the Warriors of Elbaf are the strongest in the world of One Piece. He even stated that long ago, the warriors of Elbaf completely conquered the entirety of the New World. In fact, the primary reason that the World Government wants the giants of Elbaf on their side is for their immense strength. Their only weakness is their children, as was confirmed by Nerona Imu. This is also why the primary tactic that the Holy Knights utilized in Elbaf was to kidnap the children of the country in order to enslave the entire race.
“Long ago, the Giants of Elbaf conquered the entire New World. Now, they will be brought under the command of the World Government, once and for all!” — Shamrock confirms the power of the Giants, One Piece Chapter #1137
Regardless, in the fight in Elbaf against the World Government, including the King of the entire World, Nerona Imu, the Giants showed incredible resilience, with the likes of Dorry and Brogy fighting against any threat that dares to stand in their path, and most importantly, Loki, the Accursed Prince, fighting against Nerona Imu himself.
With his power of the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr, Loki is one of the strongest creatures in the entire world, surpassing even the likes of Yonko Kaido and Big Mom. His strength is absolutely immense and worthy of someone being labeled as the leader of the mightiest race in the entire world. With the power to destroy the world, Loki stands at the pinnacle of strength, with only a few capable of rivaling him.
“In Elbaph, we have a legend about a Warrior God. He wielded a weapon known as Ragnir-Iron Lightning-and turned into an enormous dragon to face off against the Sun God!! He fought alongside a trusted, loyal ice squirrel known as Ratatoskr.” — Elder Jarul explains the power of War God, One Piece Chapter #1175
Why An Alliance With The Giants Is Important For Luffy In The Final Saga
Throughout the Elbaf arc, it has become incredibly clear that these Giants possess strength that is difficult to rival. Among the old Giant Warrior Pirates, there are Dorry and Broy, both of whom are monsters in their own right, with a bounty of 1.8 billion berries on their heads. There is also the new Giant Warrior Pirates, which is led by Haijrudin, and while they might appear to be insignificant right now, their strength is continuously growing. Loki stands among the strongest characters in the entire world already, while Elder Jarul was officially labeled as the strongest man in the world around 300 years ago.
This goes to show that the Giants possess strength that even the World Government cannot ignore. The only thing they want to do right now is to get these giants on their side to serve as their slave warriors in the upcoming battle against the likes of the Revolutionary Army, the Yonko, and any other threat that dares to oppose them. This is precisely why an alliance with the Giants of Elbaf is important for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Right now, Luffy does not have enough firepower to compete against Nerona Imu and his World Government, but if the giants side with him, then his forces will grow significantly in terms of power. We will most definitely get to see a more even battle unfolding later down the line to save the world itself.
