World of Warcraft yanks rare mount from players who paid others to earn it for them

World of Warcraft players are watching one of the game’s rarest mounts vanish from their collections, paid for or not.

It’s the latest jolt in a summer already rattled by internal drama, after Blizzard fired a WoW developer caught cheating with dev-only spells just weeks ago.

This time the fallout lands squarely on players, and plenty swear they never touched a shady deal, but turns out gold isn’t always as clean as it looks.

WoW players say their Mythic L’ura mount vanished overnight

As reported by Wowhead, complaints started stacking up on Reddit and Discord saying the Ashes of Belo’ren, the flying mount tied to defeating Mythic L’ura, began disappearing from collections without warning.

In its place sat a mail from Blizzard explaining that a reward on the account was “connected to activity that violates our in-game policies” and pulled as a result.

Blizzard hasn’t said what the flagged activity actually was, so players are left piecing it together themselves. The theory gaining the most traction on Reddit and Blizzard forums is boosting (guild raid clears sold through online communities), even ones paid for entirely in gold, might still count as a violation if a middleman or advertiser was involved rather than a direct player-to-player trade.

That would be a meaningful shift, as Blizzard’s 2022 policy update explicitly targeted boosting organizations instead of individuals swapping gold for a carry, and the company hasn’t revised that policy since. Whatever the real trigger is here, whole raid groups say they’re losing the mount together, including members who insist they never touched anything but gold.

It’s not the first time Blizzard has drawn a hard line around outside money touching its economy either, following the same instinct that got Project Epoch shut down with a cease and desist last year.
