Black Clover, a story by Yuki Tabata, made a brief return on August 4, 2026, after its initial conclusion on May 1, with chapter 392. In August, Black Clover made a comeback with a brand-new release, notably Volume 38, as well as the new guidebook. The guidebook saw the reveal of a ton of new information, especially pertaining to our main character, Asta.
After the timeskip and ascension to the rank of Wizard King, Asta’s growth in terms of strength is clearly exponential. To that end, in the new guidebook, Yuki Tabata, the creator of Black Clover, reveals Asta’s true power when using the Demon Slasher Sword inherited from Yami. With this blade, Asta can choose to cut whatever he wants, and it’s a dimensional-level slash that can bypass space itself. It makes for the most overpowered attacks in the series and upscales Asta to new heights.
Black Clover New August 4 Guidebook Release Reveals Asta’s Dimensional Slash That Can Destroy Anything
Back on May 1, 2026, we all had to bid farewell to Black Clover when Yuki Tabata released his final batch of chapters, which included chapters 390, 391, and 392, in Jump GIGA’s Spring 2026 edition. Chapter 392 concluded the story, but it was later revealed that Black Clover would make a brief return on August 4, 2026, with two new releases. The first and most expected one was the release of the final volume— Black Clover Volume 38, which covers the last stretch of the manga. What we were not expecting was the release of a new guidebook alongside it. Black Clover’s last guidebook came in 2018, so fans were understandably hyped to see this new release, especially for the information it brought with it.
This guidebook, known as the Perfect Grimoire, contains character sheets and explains many abilities and attacks previously seen in Black Clover. Asta, the main character of this story, was especially highlighted in this new guidebook, as was to be expected. Specifically, this new guidebook upscales Asta in terms of feats. Through the new release, we now have a section concerning Asta’s Demon Slasher Sword and all the attacks he uses through it. For reference, the Demon Slasher Sword was originally Yami’s katana from the Hino country. After Yami passed it down to Asta, it mutated and became an anti-magic weapon, and as confirmed by the guidebook, it is his strongest one by far.
The Black Clover guidebook delivers a new section about Demon Slasher: Infinite Slash. This attack was directly stated in the guidebook to be strong enough to bypass dimensions. By using anti-magic in the sword, it is able to cut through space itself. This is due to the Katana’s own interesting attributes, which allow its user to choose what to cut. As highlighted by the guidebook, this was seen when Asta was able to slash Sister Lily without damaging her original soul, and only cutting through the Paladin. The guidebook also goes over the Demon Slasher Infinite Slash Equinox, which is an ability that Asta used to one-shot Lucifero’s manifestation in Black Clover. This ability is also dimension-bypassing, and it’s been confirmed that when this slash is launched, it does not grow weaker over distance. In other words, it is a speed and space-defying ability.
Quite a lot of the abilities that Asta uses to slash through dimensions are based on Yami’s Dark magic, which, in and of itself, is also an attribute that allows Yami to cut through space. This is what made the former Captain of the Black Bulls a force to be reckoned with. Coupled with the anti-magic, it takes Asta’s powers to a whole new level and allows him to slice anyone to cancel out their powers with ease.
Asta’s New Power Makes Him The Strongest Wizard King To Ever Live
Asta was always destined for greatness ever since we were first introduced to him in Black Clover Chapter 1 on February 16, 2015, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12. While he was born as an anomaly with no mana, this curse turned out to be a blessing that allowed him to wield the powerful Devilish Five Clover Grimoire, which gave him access to anti-magic, a powerful attribute that allows him to nullify all mana-based powers.
Adding that to Asta’s superhuman strength, which he built over years of training and non-reliance on magic, leads to him becoming the strongest character of all time by the end of the story. Asta showed his might against Lucius, the final enemy, whom he defeated with the help of Yuno. He then showed his strength once more and defeated Yuno in what was the decisive battle in choosing the new 29th Wizard King after Julius. Asta’s mana-nullifying power simply makes him an undefeatable force. Coupled with weapons like Demon Slasher, he is simply too overpowered to defeat for any Wizard.
Asta’s Mastery Over Anti-Magic Has Increased After The 2-Year Timeskip
Black Clover’s manga ended in quite a rushed manner. Clearly, Yuki Tabata had a lot more story to tell, and this became obvious through the guidebook, where he went on to drop some massive information better suited for release in the manga itself. But, at the very least, he fleshed out Asta’s strength growth properly. Asta was already quite strong near the end of the manga, as seen in the Lucius and Yuno battles. But we’re certain that in Black Clover Chapter 392, he was on a whole other level. That is because, after the Wizard King battle, a two-year time skip unfolds. In 2 years, Asta would have continued to train and take on massive battles as the new Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom, leading to him growing further in terms of power.
In the two-year timeskip, it’s very likely that Asta went on to further master anti-magic and develop himself physically. Hopefully, Yuki Tabata returns someday with new content concerning Asta and the rest of the beloved cast of Black Clover. We would absolutely love a new showcase of his strength as the Wizard King, as that’s something that we never truly got to see and enjoy in the manga due to its abrupt ending. Even with the manga having made a brief return with the release of the guidebook, and the new inclusion of a 15-page-long chapter, the conclusion remains somewhat lackluster in that regard. The extra chapter does not give us any new information pertaining to Asta’s powers, and instead chooses to showcase his coronation, which happened before the timeskip. There is definitely more potential in the Black Clover story, but for now, all that is left for this franchise is the anime return in October 2026, led by Studio Pierrot, following a five-year hiatus which began in 2021 due to the slow manga serialization.
