Popular leftist Twitch streamer Hasan Piker made several posts celebrating Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in the Michigan Democratic Senate primary after NBC called the race. The primary between Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens was the subject of much debate, with analysts framing it as a contest between the progressive left and establishment Democrats.
The race was closely fought, with only a 1.4-point difference when NBC called the progressive candidate the winner. Hasan Piker has helped canvass for El-Sayed in the run-up to the primary and was delighted with the victory. The Twitch streamer took to X and proclaimed that Michigan will stop being a swing state if Abdul El-Sayed wins the upcoming midterms:
“The work is only beginning. Michigan will never be considered a swing state ever again.”
El-Sayed will go against Mike Rogers, who won the Republican primary after running unopposed.

“Organized People Beat Organized Money Tonight”: Hasan Piker Reacts to El-Sayed Overcoming Massive Spending Gap
A point frequently raised by progressives during the Michigan Senate primary was the discrepancy in campaign funding. According to NBC News’ report, Abdul El-Sayed overcame a “nearly $65 million onslaught of outside money”. In comparison, Haley Stevens’ campaign saw big donations from the establishment, including $30+ million from AIPAC. El-Sayed himself criticized her for these donations, and said this in a debate a week before the primary:
“If you need a $60 million crutch, you probably can’t be elected on your own terms.”
Hasan Piker is a vocal critic of AIPAC and corporate PACs in general. He pointed out the difference in expenditures between the two campaigns in his celebratory post on X. Piker claimed the people of Michigan were behind Abdul El-Sayed. As opposed to “organized money” in the case of Haley Stevens. Hasan Piker wrote:
“10-1 outspent. Endless smears. 64 million in outside expenditures. Organized people beat organized money tonight.”
