The Cushman School

Imagine the rustle of palm fronds and book pages as Dr. Laura Cushman rolled up her sleeves to start an altogether different type of school. She had 12 students. She was a seasoned educator and a passionate idealist. She had a “can-do” attitude shaped by her Midwestern upbringing and a spirit of entrepreneurship that matched Miami’s, then as well as now.
Hers would be a school where pedagogy could sit alongside laughter and joy in the classroom – where teachers would say “listening” instead of say “hush,” and children could learn by their own joyful doing.
Today, Cushman has over 850 students from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. With a century-long proven-track record for innovation, our school has moved from the front porch to the forefront of excellence.
The mission of The Cushman School is to cultivate happy, creative and engaged members of society who exemplify an exceptional character and a positive attitude. The educational environment at The Cushman School fosters in students the qualities of virtue, responsibility, respect for self and others and nurtures the student in intellectual, physical and spiritual growth.
The Cushman School takes a personalized approach to educating each student to ensure he/she reaches his/her fullest potential. In following Dr. Cushman’s philosophy, the faculty and administration are committed to identifying and understanding the unique “gifts” within each child and planning age-appropriate educational journeys. In order to connect with students and offer individualized instruction, small student-to-teacher ratios and ample teacher assistance are evident. To this end, The Cushman School continues to develop confident, creative and critical thinkers who exhibit tremendous leadership and strength of character in the various fields they pursue.

The Gordon School is dedicated to helping students reach their highest potential through our nurturing, child-centered environment and our program of academic excellence. They teach their children to cherish the wisdom and faith of Judaism and embrace its rich heritage. Their age-appropriate programs promote growth and development in each child’s intellectual, social-emotional, ethical and spiritual domains.
For almost 40 years the Gordon School has provided an integrated curriculum combining the highest standards of secular academic excellence with the rich traditions of Jewish heritage. What started out as a single nursery classroom has now grown to 3 divisions that educate children as young as 3 months old all the way to 7th grade. This expansion is due to the vision and demand by Congregation and community families who want to have their children at The Gordon School through all stages of their education.
In 1986, Beth David Congregant Arlene Zakarin helped establish an early childhood center for toddlers and preschoolers at Beth David. That year, 10 families enrolled their children into the new Beth David program. By the following year, the school tripled in size from one class to three. As the school continued to grow, so did our need for more space. And in 1989, the generosity of Norma and Sammy Gordon made possible the renovation of three additional classrooms, a new kitchen and a lunchroom. The Gordon Family chose to pay tribute to Sam’s father, Robert J. Gordon and that year, the school was renamed The Gordon School of Beth David Congregation.

Score Academy Miami – Best schools in Miami

Score Academy is the accredited K-12 private school within Score At The Top Learning Centers, which have been family owned and operated since 1980, when Judi Robinovitz, Certified Educational Planner, started the first Learning Center in New Jersey.
When Judi moved to Florida in 1992, she opened Score At The Top Learning Center in Vero Beach. The center was designed to provide students and their families with academic support and guidance beyond what was available in local schools. Over time, we encountered a population of students whose needs were not being met in a traditional school environment. Many of these students were utilizing our Learning Center for far more than tutoring. Our academic coaching turned into educational mentoring, which prompted us to seek accreditation so we could create customized curricula to meet individual student needs, offer courses for credit, part-time and full-time schooling, and even graduate students and issue diplomas.
With an individualized approach to education, Score Academy matches curriculum – from remedial and on-level to honors and Advanced Placement – to each student’s specific learning style and personal goals. Score Academy focuses on one student at a time, creating an individual education plan and schedule for each student based on academic needs, learning style, and personality. Thus, we are in a position to accept any student who has the potential to succeed in our environment.
Over the years, Score Academy has expanded to several locations in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties, inspiring hundreds of local students to academic success. Through our blended virtual learning environment, Score has reached many more students around the world. We plan to continue Score’s growth by opening additional schools in Florida and other states.
In addition to enrolling students in grades K through 12 on a rolling basis throughout the year, we offer summer school at all grade levels, and individual courses for credit throughout the year for students who want to enhance their curriculum or improve their GPA. We are proud of the fact that all Score Academy graduates have continued their education in 4-year universities across the nation.
Based on the quality of our academic and student services, Score achieved SACS CASI accreditation in 2003 in Palm Beach Gardens, with each location following suit shortly thereafter. By 2011, Score achieved SACS and AdvancED “district” accreditation for all its existing and future schools. Accreditation reflects our commitment to providing our students with the highest quality of private-school education coupled with continuous improvement of services.
Score Academy is a member of the College Board; our AP courses and teachers are individually certified by the College Board. We have been approved by the state of Florida to accept the McKay, Gardiner, and FTC Scholarships in Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens, and Wellington. The NCAA Eligibility Center accepts our core courses in fulfillment of academic eligibility requirements for athletes. The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) has authorized Score to issue the I-20 to international students who wish to attend one of our schools.
