Why DK Vs BLG May Decide The Winner Of Worlds 2026

Worlds 2026 is over halfway finished at this point, and as we draw closer to the semifinals of the biggest League of Legends event of the year, all eyes are on the last few pivotal quarterfinals matches. We have already had an LPL clash and a battle of the West versus the best, but arguably the most important match of the entire stage comes from DK vs BLG.

One is an absolute powerhouse that has had a couple of stumbles in the past few months, and the other a dark horse that has shown they can topple giants, and whoever manages to win the matchup may very well decide the eventual winner of the entire tournament.

DK And BLG Are Both Capable Of Winning Worlds 2026

Worlds 2026 League of legends DK

The Worlds Swiss stage has ended, and with a couple of quarters already completed, we turn our sights to perhaps the biggest match of all between two very different teams. Throughout the LCK season and their appearance at EWC, DK showed a lot of promise, particularly in the Summer split, where they beat GenG in two best-of-threes and were competitive enough throughout the playoffs to scrapeinto the World’s main event.

Guess the games from the emojis.

From there, their path out of Swiss was pretty quick, though not without some resistance. Their matches against G2 and the reigning champions T1 ended in a single teamfight, despite being in losing positions in both games, and their series against MKoi was rocky but still convincing enough to allow them to jump straight into the playoffs without a single loss to their name.

Some people question the skill level of their opponents, as both European opponents have since been knocked out, but I think the team has shown their talents year-round and is really coming into their own at this event. Much of their roster’s power comes from young talent, as aside from League of Legends veteran ShowMaker, the rest of the team have been brought up through the lower Korean tiers and signed for their raw skill and mechanical prowess.

Smash has shown his insane aggression on picks like Lucian, and Career is able to support that playstyle across a range of enchanters, with a couple of engage champions under his belt as well. On the top side, Siwoo is more of a mixed bag, having a lot of games on big meta picks but struggling with certain champs like Ambessa and Jayce. Lucid shows comfort on AD Junglers and has decided a lot of games over the past 12 months, and finally, is ShowMaker, a stable player who has been on control mage duty for the 2026 season.

In terms of their pre-Worlds ranking, many analysts and players put them in the middle of the pack, much lower than teams like HLE and AL who ended up crumbling in several key matches. However, the magic of Worlds is powerful, and this underdog roster has gone toe-to-toe with the best of the best and may very well go all the way to the finals.

BLG Is A Top Three Contender For A Reason

On the other side of the fence is BLG, a team that was gunning for the Golden Road for the first half of the year after winning First Stand but fell short of an MSI trophy by a single game and entered Worlds as the LPL’s second seed. Back in 2024, the team went all the way to five games against T1 in the 2024 World Finals, but 2025 was a different story, with the squad dropping out in Swiss before they could even hit the BO5s.

Regular-season changes and drama aside, the roster has remained very similar since their unfortunate finals loss in 2024. Knight has continued his reign as king of the LPL midlaners, and Bin is widely considered to be one of the top three, if not the best, toplaners in the world.

Worlds 2026 League of legends EDG

But the most interesting player on the entire roster going into this matchup is Viper, a veteran ADC who won Worlds back in 2021 with EDG, cementing his legacy in-game with a skin against none other than DK and ShowMaker himself. He has had a fairly quiet year since joining BLG, but with the support and setup from Xun and On, he has done more than enough to put the team in the position they are today.

Their route to the quarterfinals was a lot tougher than DK’s, as they matched up against fellow LPL team, TOP Esports, and the LCK super team, HLE, who they took down to advance. With that said, those extra, more challenging games may be the difference maker in their matchup against DK, but if you look back to EWC, it was actually the Korean team that came out on top, so there is for sure no clear favourite going into the games.

The Mountains Of T1 And GenG

Worlds 2026 League of legends Geng

The reason this match may end up being the difference maker in who wins the tournament is the rest of the opponents left at the event. On the other side of the bracket waiting in their own semi-finals are GenG and IG. The former has been the best League of Legends team for the past three years or so, winning several MSI titles and dominating the LCK, despite not lifting a Worlds trophy in that time.

IG is another dark horse full of talented veterans looking for another chance at gold, but in terms of how these teams fare against each other, it can be hard to judge on stats alone, yet many people are putting GenG in the lead and will likely end up being right.

Worlds 2026 League of legends T1 (1)

Then there’s the Faker-shaped elephant in the room with T1. The expectations are that KC loses their match and allows the champs to advance, and while this 2026 version of T1 doesn’t look particularly fierce, I think they have a very good shot of winning depending on how DK vs BLG plays out.

That is because of how those two teams match up against the rest of the competition. BLG may be a very strong team, but they have struggled to close out those longer series against GenG, despite beating both HLE and T1 at MSI before losing in the final. If they win against DK, then I think they will keep going all the way to the final, where their likely opponent, GenG, will stop them in their tracks, giving Chovy his first and well-deserved World title.

On the other hand, if DK win, then T1 have a much better chance of going to the final, where the mental edge and experience will allow them to claim yet another trophy. Of course, there is still plenty of room for upsets and unexpected wins in the last few matches, but looking at the past and this year as a whole, I think it is safe to say that the finals will be largely dictated by the outcome of this crucial quarterfinal between two opponents who share the same hunger for glory.
