President Donald Trump called Abdul El-Sayed a “jihadist” on Saturday, October 31, 2026, while taking questions at his Mar-a-Lago Halloween party. The Rapid Response 47 account posted a video of the exchange on X. A reporter there asked the president about the rift between El-Sayed and Representative Haley Stevens.

“They’re really fighting. Nobody wants Abdul, and Stevens is in there fighting—you gotta give her credit… She tried to do it, but she can’t. You can’t live with him; he’s a jihadist. You can’t live with him. She tried, you know—she’s a Democrat.”

After complimenting Stevens, the president turned to Abdul El-Sayed. It is no secret that the president is not a fan of the Democratic candidate, and El-Sayed even challenged him to sit through a lie detector test. The president didn’t waste any time criticizing the candidate, saying, “He is a person that hates Black people, hates Jewish people, and I think probably hates all people.”

The “jihadist” label is not new to President Trump. He used it at rallies in Michigan and Iowa this week. Trump has also tied El-Sayed to the Muslim Brotherhood and sharia law without evidence. The night before the Mar-a-Lago party, he told Black and Jewish voters backing El-Sayed that they were “not smart.” El-Sayed, a former Detroit health director, would become the Senate’s first Muslim member.

Stevens lost the August primary to El-Sayed and then demanded he disavow an outside group’s ad. Trump gave her credit during the same exchange, calling her a fighting Democrat. She endorsed El-Sayed’s Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, the next day. El-Sayed told CNN that Stevens’s comments about the ad were not relevant to his campaign.

Trump widened one accusation until it covered everyone, saying El-Sayed probably hates all people. No evidence supports the charge. Michigan votes on Tuesday, and it would be a shame if El-Sayed won a Senate seat in that election.
