Popular American singer Chris Brown is set to receive a prison sentence after pleading guilty to a count of affray.
On October 26, 2026, BBC News reported that Judge Tony Baumgartner has issued an 8-month and 4-month custodial sentence for American singer and Grammy winner Chris Brown and his vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, respectively, for the offence of affray for attacking music producer Abe Diaw in a London nightclub in 2023. According to Variety, Brown was arrested during his visit to the U.K. in May 2025, and has received a 12-month suspension of his prison sentence from a London court.
Chris Brown Pleads Guilty To The Offence of Affray
According to BBC News, Chris Brown was shown to be attacking Abe Diaw with a tequila bottle in CCTV footage at London’s Southwark Crown Court on October 26, 2026. Akinlolu’s involvement was also deemed “significant” by the court, but it was observed that he was not the initiator of the attack.
According to Reuters, Diaw received multiple blows to the head with the glass bottle, and then it was swung at him repeatedly. The attack lasted 20 seconds, but the violence was considered to be “intense,” BBC News reported. As per Variety, while describing the attack, the London Crown Prosecution Service stated:
“They continued their assault whilst the victim attempted to flee through the club. The victim was kicked while he was seated defenseless on the floor.”
Reuters reported that before sentencing Chris Brown, Judge Tony Baumgartner noted that the law is “equal” for everyone, regardless of popularity or success. He stated:
“Your fame, commercial success and professional standing do not entitle you to special treatment – the law applies equally to everyone.”
In July 2026, both Chris Brown and Omololu Akinlolu pleaded guilty to a count of affray. However, Variety reported that they denied other serious charges such as grievous bodily harm and assault. Brown also denied that he had an offensive weapon. These charges were later dropped.
