Apple’s new iPhone Duo sold out within minutes of preorders going live, and resellers are already charging thousands of dollars for the foldable smartphone.
The device officially goes on sale October 23, but customers who missed the initial preorder window are now facing a much longer wait. Apple’s estimated shipping dates for new orders have reportedly slipped to January.
With demand outpacing the initial supply, scalpers have started selling their confirmed preorders on eBay, with some buyers paying significantly more than Apple’s retail prices to secure the device ahead of its release.
iPhone Duo preorders are selling for nearly $5,000 on eBay
According to eBay sold listings from October 16, iPhone Duo preorders have already been purchased for as much as $4,999.99, despite the phones not officially launching for another week.
One reseller sold a 2TB Night Sky model for $4,999.99, approximately $1,800 more than Apple’s $3,199 retail price.
Another 1TB Night Sky preorder sold for $4,400, while a 1TB Star White model went for $4,100. Both models normally retail for $2,599.
The price increases aren’t limited to Apple’s most expensive configurations, either.
eBaySeveral 256GB models, which start at $1,999, have sold for between $2,699 and $3,800. Meanwhile, a 512GB Midnight Sky preorder sold for $3,999.99, compared to its $2,199 retail price.
Some sellers have included screenshots of their Apple order confirmations, showing expected delivery dates of October 23. Others are advertising confirmed preorders with shipping or pickup arrangements for launch day.
The listings are marked as sold on eBay, although the screenshots do not independently confirm whether every transaction has been completed or fulfilled.
Apple’s official iPhone Duo pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB of storage, rising to $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB, and $3,199 for 2TB.
Despite the inflated resale prices, customers can still place orders directly through Apple, although current delivery estimates reportedly extend into January.
