McDonald’s is bringing giant Fry Aid machines to college campuses across the US, giving students a chance to score free food during Homecoming celebrations.
The fast food chain is launching the Fry Aid machines on October 17, 2026, and they will appear in three college towns.
The promotion is inspired by the viral combination of McDonald’s fries and Diet Coke, which has become a popular recovery meal on social media.
Rather than dispensing fries directly, the oversized machines will distribute McDonald’s Arch Cards that students can use to purchase food.
Where to find McDonald’s Fry Aid machines
McDonald’s Fry Aid machines will appear in Ann Arbor, Michigan; Atlanta, Georgia; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, October 17.
Each location will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time, giving students five hours to visit and grab an Arch Card.
The locations are:
- Ann Arbor, Michigan: 812 Monroe St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104
- Atlanta, Georgia: 170 Northside Dr. SW, Suite 96, Atlanta, GA 30313
- Baton Rouge, Louisiana: 120-124 W Chimes St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802
The promotion is timed around Homecoming celebrations, with McDonald’s positioning the fries and Diet Coke combination as a way for students to recharge after a busy week.
Wikimedia CommonsThe concept takes inspiration from a social media trend that pairs the chain’s fries with a Diet Coke as a go-to recovery meal.
While the Fry Aid machines are currently limited to three cities, McDonald’s is also offering a separate promotion for customers nationwide.
Through the end of 2026, customers can get free fries with any purchase of at least $1 through the McDonald’s app.
Unlike the campus giveaway, the nationwide offer does not require visiting a Fry Aid machine, allowing customers to take advantage of the deal wherever the promotion is available.
The Fry Aid machines are the latest unusual giveaway from McDonald’s. Earlier in October, the chain handed out free bottles of its pickle juice to runners and spectators during the Chicago Marathon.
Dubbed “Pickle Boost,” the limited-time promotion saw McDonald’s bottle the brine from its signature pickles, offering it as a potential way for runners to combat muscle cramps during the race.
