Devil Fruits are the primary power system of the world of One Piece, and Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the series, has extensively used them over the last decades and expanded upon their powers tremendously.
With One Piece awaiting the release of chapter 1196 on October 18, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 47, the powers of these Devil Fruits continue to grow. More often than not, the strongest of Devil Fruits are often found within the ranks of the Yonko crew. Now, Eiichiro Oda is welcoming a new legendary Devil Fruit within the ranks of the Yonko. This Devil Fruit is the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr, which is inevitably going to be added to Luffy’s powerful Yonko fleet at the end of the Elbaf arc.
One Piece Is Adding The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr To The Straw Hat Fleet
The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr, is one of the most legendary Devil Fruits to exist in the One Piece world. This Devil Fruit holds legendary status in Elbaf, and that is primarily down to the fact that it once belonged to the God of War of the country long ago, whose strength was stated to be great enough to fight evenly against Sun God Nika.
“The Mythical Zoan Ryu Ryu no Mi…it is said that whoever eats it can transform into the largest dragon in the whole world. The size of the creature is relative to the initial size of whoever ate the fruit. They say this dragon breathes lightning, and when it flies, its jet-black wings turn day into night.” — Elder Jarul explains Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhhoggr, One Piece Chapter #1175
The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr, is a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that allows the user to transform into the largest dragon in the entire world, with the ability to breathe lightning. At the same time, this fruit grants one immense power strong enough to wipe out the entire world, making the user akin to a god of destruction. This Devil Fruit was once in the possession of the World Government, and it is strongly implied in the climax of the Elbaf arc that the Nidhoggr was once an ally of Nerona Imu, which is why he now calls him a traitor, just like the Ice Squirrel Ratatoskr. However, this time around, in the third world of One Piece, things have shifted completely. The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr, is being utilized against Nerona Imu. Loki is fighting for Elbaf and against the influence of the World Government, and in One Piece chapter 1193, he officially took to utilizing the strongest form that this Devil Fruit offers on September 14, 2026.
Regardless of how the Elbaf arc ends, one thing that we can say with absolute certainty is that Loki is now an ally of the Straw Hat Pirates. There is a strong chance that Loki could go on to join the Straw Hat Pirates, but even if he decides to stay behind in Elbaf, he is already an ally of the crew. In other words, Loki can also be added to the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, just like Hajrudin, as a co-captain of the new Giant Warrior Pirates. By incorporating Loki into the group, the Straw Hat Yonko fleet will gain a legendary Devil Fruit, one that would shoot their overall powers to a completely new level.
Hajrudin: Remember, Mr. Ya! Elbaf will never give in. Our Warriors are always prepared to die in glorious battle! And even if I die, there’s still Loki!
Loki: That’s right, brother, square up!
Luffy: And look! I’m all better too! Gomu Gomu no….
Luffy, Loki, and Hajrudin Together: Triple General Gokoku Sovereignty!!
— Loki and Hajrudin mend their differences, One Piece Chapter #1191
Why The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr Is Legendary
The primary reason why the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr, is considered to be a legendary Devil Fruit is simply its immense strength. This Devil Fruit allows the user to transform into a massive dragon, stated to be the largest in the world. Its true power can only be brought out by one with an ancient giant bloodline because the larger the individual who consumes it, the larger a dragon they can transform into.
“In Elbaph, we have a legend about a Warrior God. He wielded a weapon known as Ragnir – Iron Lightning – and turned into an enormous dragon to face off against the Sun God!! He fought alongside a trusted, loyal ice squirrel known as Ratatoskr.” — Jarul explains the War God Nidhoggr, One Piece Chapter #1175
Furthermore, the destructive capabilities that come with its lightning-wielding power are immense. The user of this fruit can easily destroy islands in a single lightning blast, as has already been demonstrated by Loki in the Elbaf arc. This fruit is easily capable of destroying the entire world and strong enough to allow Loki to compete against Nerona Imu. Quite clearly, any Devil Fruit offering such immense strength is going to be among the strongest in the entire world and held in a legendary light. Now this fruit is officially set to belong to the Straw Hat Pirates.
Luffy’s Straw Hat Grand Fleet Is The Strongest Force On The Seas
At the end of the Elbaf arc, Luffy’s Straw Hat Grand Fleet is going to be stronger than ever and quite easily the greatest force on the entire seas. This is because not only will Luffy add the Giant Warrior Pirates to the mix alongside the entirety of Elbaf warriors, but he will also receive the support of the Accursed Prince Loki.
In One Piece chapter 1152, which was released on June 23, 2025, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 30, Monkey D. Luffy asked Loki to join the Straw Hat Pirates. Loki rejected this offer and later down the line reiterated his intention to stay behind in Elbaf and protect what his father left behind for him. It is highly unlikely for Loki to join the Straw Hat Pirates, but he has already confirmed he’s an ally of the crew and will lead Elbaf together with Hajrudin.
In other words, Loki is a member of the expansive Straw Hat Grand Fleet, making it the strongest force on the seas. With the immense might of Elbaf, Loki, and potentially even Scopper Gaban being thrown into the mix, the Straw Hat Grand Fleet is simply unstoppable and a force that can even rival the World Government at this point in the story. That said, Luffy still needs more powerful allies if he is to face off against the King of the World. It must be remembered that Nerona Imu has access to the powers of the Mother Flame as well and can simply wipe out entire continents off the face of the Earth. To combat such immense strength, Luffy needs every single ally that he can possibly make, and that is precisely why he will continue forging new bonds as the journey of the crew continues.
