Brandon Rogers confronted a disruptive fan during the Helluva Boss panel at New York Comic Con after the attendee repeatedly shouted over the cast. Event organizer ReedPop later apologized, admitting the situation was not handled quickly enough.
The panel took place Thursday, October 8, at New York City’s Javits Center. Rogers appeared alongside Vivienne Medrano, Harvey Guillén, and Vivian Nixon to discuss the animated YouTube series.
According to footage shared online and reported by Entertainment Weekly, an unidentified attendee interrupted the panel several times. Medrano initially acknowledged the disruption, but the interruptions continued as the cast spoke.
After the fan interrupted for a fourth time, Rogers told him to stop and warned that he would confront him if the behavior continued. Rogers eventually stood up and approached the edge of the stage, demanding that the attendee leave.
He also repeatedly appealed to NYCC staff to intervene. The disruption continued while Nixon was discussing motherhood, prompting Rogers to ask whether anyone working at the event was going to remove the attendee.
ReedPop admits staff response was too slow
Rogers later defended his reaction, saying the fan had crossed the line from enthusiastic fandom into disrespecting his castmates and the thousands of people who had waited to attend the panel.
“I will always step in to protect that space,” Rogers said.
ReedPop also addressed the incident, apologizing to the panelists, moderator, and fans in attendance. The organizer said the disturbance was addressed after the panel, but “action was not taken swiftly enough.”
ReedPop added that it would take steps to ensure similar incidents are handled more quickly in the future.
Clips of the confrontation continued circulating across social media throughout the weekend. Rogers created Helluva Boss and serves as one of the series’ writers and voice actors. The show has also featured guest stars including Norman Reedus, Kesha, and Jinkx Monsoon.
