Chris Hansen has finally watched Primetime, and he wasn’t impressed with Robert Pattinson’s take on him.
Speaking on his podcast Have a Seat, with Fox News host Jesse Watters conducting the interview, the former To Catch a Predator host said the A24 film missed the mark entirely.
He’d previously threatened legal action over the film after refusing to sign an NDA for an early screening, and ended up watching it in theaters like everyone else.
Hansen says Pattinson’s version is “so unlikable”
Asked whether the film captured any of his humor, Hansen didn’t hold back.
“None of my humor. This guy was so detached,” he said. “This version of Chris Hansen, played by Robert Pattinson, was so detached, so unhinged, so dark, so unlikable.”
He said the portrayal had upset his colleagues, past and present, and that his current crew had gone to see it together. Around 14 of them went, and their verdict came back by text.
“We thought some of the film work was good, interesting. The videography was interesting. The use of greens and reds and blues was interesting,” Hansen said, reading it out. “But in terms of a story, we got bored after the first 30 minutes.”
He said most audience members they spoke to afterwards called it over the top, and that anyone familiar with his work would know it “is not an accurate portrayal.”
He didn’t tell people to stay away. “If you’re a fan of A24, if you’re a fan of Robert Pattinson, make up your own mind, go see it,” he said. “Realize that when you do go see it that it is absolutely a fictional portrayal of me, of my colleagues, of the series, and of the very hard, diligent enterprise work that we did then and do now.”
When Watters asked him to grade Pattinson’s performance, he went with a D.
The original series has been revisited elsewhere too, in 2025 a documentary aired exploring why To Catch a Predator was canceled.
