A ’90s nostalgia-themed pizza shop has been getting review bombed following a series of unusual complaints from customers, including “AI Ninja Turtles” answering the phone.
Cowabunga! Pizza Pies is a “family-owned” pizza shop in Chicago, Illinois. The store’s website claims that it is made distinct by its “totally rad ‘90s vibe that turns every visit into a slice of nostalgia.”
However, the store has recently gone viral online for its rude replies on Google Reviews after a slew of customer complaints.
“Sorry I don’t want to give my details to AI Michelangelo”, a customer wrote
According to a post on X, user @tgmt_nikkitine left a 1-star review that said they called up Cowabunga! Pizza Pies to try and place an online order. They claim they were made to speak to an AI Ninja Turtle agent.
“Sorry I don’t want to give my card details to AI Michelangelo,” the review said. The response from the store, however, was aggressive: “Cool story bro! Welcome to the future! […] get a life!”
Other Google reviewers that complained about issues such as the pizza itself or coupons not working also saw responses calling them “dorks”, “morons”, and “dumb”.
The posts on X have amassed millions of viewers. As a result, many users have taken to review-bombing or calling the shop themselves. Reactions have been mixed, with some finding the humor in the responses, and some genuinely angry at the use of AI.
