A recent HUAWEI Mate XT2 marketing brief has left many creators puzzled, and they took to X to share their confusion online. Creators like GregsGadgets and Marques Brownlee spoke up on X and shared a rather questionable brief they received recently. The brief mentioned specifics of their requirements with respect to the content they needed around the product, but there was a rather bizarre requirement which stated that they could not mention that the video was paid or sponsored.

The exact requirement read,

“Cannot be labeled as “paid” or “sponsored””

This left the creators puzzled as the requirement went directly against FTC guidelines.

GregsGadgets brought the brief to light, sharing a screenshot of the same. He wrote,

“Be careful if you see some influencer posts about HUAWEI around the iPhone launch, This campaign brief tells creators to not label posts as “paid or sponsored.” Not only is this against FTC guidelines, it is disrespectful to the viewers who deserve complete transparency.”

Reposting this, creator Marques Brownlee also mentioned that he received the same email.

“Got the same email. This is fully insane”

However, as GregsGadgets’ post began to gain traction online, HUAWEI officially announced that it had not sent out any such email.

HUAWEI clarifies that it had not sent the mail with the questionable brief to any creators

Amidst the confusion about HUAWEI’s integrity, the company took to its official X account to clear the air. In a post, it clarified that the brief being circulated had not been shared by them, and may have been an attempt to malign its name.

“HUAWEI is aware of recent reports regarding an unauthorized influencer campaign email circulating online. We want to unequivocally clarify that HUAWEI has neither issued nor authorized any third party to conduct this outreach. We are looking into the possible source of the brief content in question. HUAWEI is committed to transparent disclosure in all public communications and is strengthening its oversight to ensure all marketing activities meet platform policies and industry standards.”

It is worth noting that while creators like GregsGadgets and Marques Brownlee mentioned having received this mail, creator JerryRigEverything also chimed in to state that while he had also received the same email, it did not appear to have come from the official HUAWEI email ID.
