Sonic is leaning into the banana craze with an entirely new collection, including a Dirty Dr Pepper made with real banana and cream.
The fast food chain launched its new banana lineup nationwide on August 24, bringing four drinks and frozen treats to participating locations. The collection includes the returning Banana Pudding Shake alongside three new additions.
Among them is the Banana Dirty Dr Pepper, which combines Dr Pepper’s signature 23 flavors with real banana and cream for Sonic’s latest take on the dirty soda trend.

The Banana Dirty Dr Pepper isn’t the only unusual addition. Sonic has also introduced a Banana Pudding Cream Slush, which blends vanilla soft serve with an icy banana pudding slush.
For dessert, customers can order the new Banana Pudding Blast, featuring banana pudding-flavored soft serve blended with vanilla wafer cookie crumbles and topped with additional crumbles.
The Banana Pudding Shake is also back on the menu. The returning shake features banana pudding-flavored soft serve and vanilla wafer cookie crumbles, topped with more cookie pieces, whipped topping, and a cherry.
“Banana has quickly become one of the most talked-about flavors, and SONIC is putting its own spin on the trend in a way only we can, with a new collection of both sips and sweets to indulge in,” Sonic Chief Marketing Officer Ryan Dickerson said.
“From the return of our beloved Banana Pudding Shake to new trends that only Sonic can deliver like Banana Dirty Dr Pepper, this lineup brings together nostalgic favorites and new innovation that tap into guests’ growing appetite for fruit-forward flavors.”
All four items are available through the Sonic app and at participating restaurants nationwide beginning August 24.
Sonic isn’t the only major fast food chain putting its own spin on Dirty Dr Pepper. McDonald’s launched its own version nationwide in May as part of a major new drinks menu, combining Dr Pepper with vanilla flavor and cold foam.
Earlier in August, Portillo’s launched a one-of-a-kind Dr Pepper milkshake that customers could add chocolate cake to.
