Indie developers often go above and beyond to support their communities, but one creator has taken that dedication to a whole new level after spotting a single wishlist from the Czech Republic.
With Ball Boy Simulator set to launch on Steam later this month, the developer has been preparing the game for release with the usual finishing touches. However, one last-minute addition wasn’t made because of a huge demand from players. Instead, it was all thanks to one baseball fan on the other side of the world.
After spotting a single fan wishing for the game from the Czech Republic, the developer decided to fully localize the game into Czech, ensuring that one supporter could enjoy it in their native language.
Ball Boy Simulator gets Czech localization for just one Steam wishlist
The developer shared the wholesome story on X, explaining that while checking the game’s wishlist data, they noticed there was exactly one person from the Czech Republic waiting for Ball Boy Simulator.
Naturally, they decided to add Czech language support specifically for that player, writing: “One day, when I checked my wishlist, I saw that just one person from Czech Republic had signed up. Lately, from the World Baseball Classic, I know how much respect Czech Republic has for baseball and Japan. So for the sake of this one baseball fan in Czech Republic, I implemented Czech language too. Wait for me, my Czech friend.”
The message quickly won over players, with many praising the developer for going the extra mile despite there being virtually no commercial reason to add another language for a single wishlist. Even larger studios like Warhorse (behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2) praised the developer’s move.
The gesture references one of the most memorable stories from the 2023 World Baseball Classic. During the tournament, Japanese baseball fans embraced the Czech Republic as an adopted second team after the two nations met in the group stage.
Although the mostly amateur Czech squad lost 10-2, they earned widespread admiration after taking an early lead against tournament favorites Japan. The team also produced one of the competition’s most unforgettable moments when Czech pitcher Ondrej Satoria, who worked as an electrician outside of baseball, struck out Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani.
That underdog story helped create a lasting bond between Japanese and Czech baseball fans, making the developer’s decision to add localization for one supporter feel even more meaningful as Ball Boy Simulator prepares for its launch later this month.
