KFC and Oreo have combined fried chicken and dessert with a limited-edition cookie inspired by the Colonel’s Original Recipe.
Oreo is no stranger to unusual flavors, but its latest creation might be one of its wildest yet.
Oreo China has partnered with KFC to transform the fast-food chain’s signature fried chicken flavor into a sandwich cookie.
Fresh off KFC’s absurd watermelon and chicken menu, the cookie crossover launched in China on July 31 as part of Oreo’s limited-edition “Playful Time Travel” collection, according to China Insider.
KFC’s Original Recipe becomes an Oreo flavor
The cookies retain Oreo’s classic chocolate wafers but replace the familiar sweet creme with a filling designed to recreate the salty, seasoned taste of KFC’s Original Recipe fried chicken.
One side of each cookie is also stamped with KFC’s logo in place of the traditional Oreo branding. The boxes use KFC’s recognizable red-and-white color scheme and feature fried chicken alongside a stack of cookies.
A second Retro Popcorn flavor launched alongside the KFC edition. Both varieties are available in individual 87g boxes or together in a 174g two-flavor bundle.
The products have appeared on Chinese shopping platform JD, although there has been no announcement about an international release. Anyone hoping to dunk a fried chicken-flavored Oreo into milk outside China will likely need to rely on an importer for now.
Whether KFC’s Original Recipe seasoning works with chocolate remains to be seen, but the collaboration has already given Oreo fans another flavor they probably never expected to exist.
JDThis isn’t the first time KFC has ventured into strange dessert territory. Last year, the company turned its gravy into ice cream in a collab with Hackney Gelato. And just recently, teamed up with The Simpsons for a donut burger and Squishee-inspired drink.
Oreo has also been known to push the limits on what fans expect from cookies. Earlier this year, the brand released real dill pickle cookies to celebrate April Fools’ Day.
On top of that, for Thanksgiving, Oreo released a tin featuring Cranberry Sauce, Pumpkin Pie, Turkey & Stuffing, Creamed Corn, Sweet Potato and Caramel Apple Pie-flavored cookies.
